Avening Playgroup started in the village hall in 1972 and moved to its current location in 1991. The building and outside area were built for use by the children from Avening and the surrounding towns and villages.

The inside has a cloakroom, toilets and kitchen.

The main room is divided into areas to promote the children's play. There is a carpet area, which is used for the whole group and small activities and to provide a soft surface for the children to sit on when playing with activities such as floor jigsaws, doctors, and cars and garages.

There is a role play area which is enclosed by a wooden surround and lots of clothes for the children to dress up in and have fun, as well as getting practice dressing themselves.

There is a mark making area, a creative area and a quiet book area.

The playgroup is very well resourced with lots of toys and activities for them to choose to play with.

Outside there is a safe outside area. There is a large playground for riding bikes, playing with balls and hoops. There is a covered area which houses a large sand pit, a play house and two small picnic tables which gives the children opporunities to play outside in all weathers.

There are two swings, a climbing frame and trampoline and a wooden wendy house.
